Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic Dentistry involves correcting imperfections in the appearance of the mouth which includes: teeth, gums, and/or bite issues. When a person is smiling, their upper teeth show. On the other hand, the lower teeth are visible when a person is talking. Color, alignment, spacing, as well as regularity of the teeth are the characteristics that give the overall mouth appearance. If you feel uncomfortable when smiling or talking, we offer a wide variety of cosmetic options to enhance the look of your mouth and overall confidence. Some of these options include: teeth whitening, smile design, teeth shape re-contouring, veneers, bonding, and ceramic/porcelain crowns.

Teeth whitening involves removing stains and discoloration to make teeth whiter and more attractive.

The tray method involves having impressions taken from which laboratory fabricated custom vinyl trays are made. A carbamide peroxide gel is placed in these trays and the trays with gel are worn daily for about 3 hours, or overnight for 3-4 weeks. We have different strengths of gel may be used, however the risk of tooth sensitivity or reactions increases with a higher strength gel. If you have badly stained teeth such as tetracycline staining, you may need several months of tray use to notice a difference. For regular maintenance, use once every few months after the initial month of daily use.

Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, virtually invisible custom-molded aligners. By using a series of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth with results that are noticed more rapidly than other treatments. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, with teeth moving into a straighter position each step. Unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth, giving you a more flexible lifestyle.

Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only done to the part of the teeth that are visible when talking or smiling.

The process of applying veneers can be either direct or indirect. The direct technique involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth using bonding. This method is usually referred to as bonding. The indirect technique typically involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. During the first appointment, the teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks when veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth.

The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure. Cosmetic dentists typically use pressed ceramic or porcelain veneers for the process that are not only durable but also aesthetically beautiful.
